Black Vulture tagging

On July 24, 2024, employees of the Center for the Study and Conservation of Biodiversity marked 3 Black Vultures (Aegypius monachus) with GPS trackers for the first time in Kazakhstan.

The work was carried out on the territory of Syrdarya-Turkestan State Regional Natural Park within the framework of the project “Vulture Conservation in Central Asia”, with the support of the Small Grants Program Green Global Fund (GGF) in Central Asia. Trackers are provided by our partners – Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF).

At the same time, colleagues from Uzbekistan (Central Asian Vultures project) in the period from July 23 to 24, 2024, two black vultures were tagged with trackers on the territory of the Nurata Reserve.

With these devices, we will be able to track the seasonal movements of vultures, study their phenology and wintering grounds.

We remind you that the black vulture (Aegypius monachus) in Kazakhstan is at the stage of being included in the Red Book.
