The main activities of the Institute of Zoology: obtaining new knowledge about the current state of the fauna of Kazakhstan, establishing regularities in the dynamics of the population of invertebrates and vertebrates depending on the state of the environment, as well as the taxonomic diversity of the fauna of ancient geological epochs and the scientific rationale for the implementation of the results in the practice of the geological services of the Republic; study of evolution, phylogeny, taxonomic diversity of modern and ancient fauna and scientific justification for the introduction of new effective developments carried out on the basis of scientific research; solution of zoological problems of socio-economic and environmental significance; use of relevant scientific achievements in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
