The results of the children's drawing competition "Leopard in Kazakhstan" have been summed up
In January 2025, the Biodiversity Research and Conservation Center (BRCC), the main executor of the leopard project in Kazakhstan, announced a republican competition for the best children's drawing on the theme "Leopard in Kazakhstan" and a personal name for the leopard living in Mangistau in 2024-2025.
In accordance with the terms of the competition, the submission of drawings ended on April 30, 2025, and the members of the competition jury have already summed up its results. A total of 584 drawings were submitted to the competition, which were divided into the following categories:
3-6 years (87 drawings)
7-10 years (333 drawings)
11-14 years (133 drawings)
15-16 years (21 drawings)
Category: “Kids with spacial needs” (10 drawings).
Five jury members participated in the evaluation of the works on a 10-point scale. Based on the evaluation results, 167 best works were selected, among which 3 winners were determined in each age category.
All 167 best works are posted on the BRCC website, and their authors will receive a certificate of participation in the competition, whose work was noted by the jury among the best, and a colorful guide-guide "Desert Cats of Kazakhstan". In addition, the winners of the competition will receive additional prizes.
Among the many proposed names for the leopard (about 190 were submitted!), the jury members unanimously chose the name proposed by Malika Kenesova: Altynkoz (Golden Eyes, or Golden-Eyed). So now our leopard, who was once again spotted on camera traps in the Ustyurt Nature Reserve and Kyzylsay Regional Park in Mangistau in the spring of 2025, has received his own personal name, which not only sounds beautiful, but also corresponds to reality - leopards really do have golden eyes.

Thank you for your feedback. Following a discussion of the comments received regarding some of the winning entries, and acting in the interests of all participants, the competition committee decided to establish a separate nomination, which includes all entries for which there is reason to believe that they were created using ready-made image outlines (i.e. based on coloring books or other images, the originals of which are easily found on the Internet). The terms of the competition do not prohibit the use of such drawing techniques, but in order to avoid competition between such entries and those that were done entirely by hand, the jury decided to create a separate nomination.
If you did not find your work among the winners or in the TOP150 best works of the competition, then remember: 584 (!) works were submitted to the competition, which were ranked by the sum of points of the jury members. Probably, your work did not get enough points by a little. This does not make it bad, it just competed with other equally strong works and lost to them. Next time you will definitely be lucky!
